1.   Ameenah Gurib-Fakim Mauritius President resigns.

President resigns

A.    After being embroiled in a scandal over her use of a credit card to buy luxury personal items, Mauritius President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim resigned.
B.    She submitted her resignation in the “national interest,” her lawyer Yousouf Mohamed said.
C.    On March 23, her resignation would take effect.

 

2.   On 19-20th March in New Delhi Informal World Trade Organisation Ministerial Meeting.
A.    On 19-20 March, for an informal World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial meeting representatives from 50 countries will be gathering in New Delhi.
B.    An opportunity to engage in free and frank discussions the informal meeting of ministers will provide with the hope that it will lead to political guidance on some major issues.
C.    In Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the absence of Ministerial guidance at the Eleventh Ministerial Conference (MC 11) that took place from 10 to 13 December 2017.
D.    It is hoped that the New Delhi meeting will provide an opportunity for ministers to explore in greater detail the options on different issues for re-invigorating the WTO.

 

3.   More opportunities to children: Children’s Science Congress.
A.    Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof. Adya Prasad Pandey has said that young students are the future of the country, emphasising the need to provide more opportunities to children.
B.    Shri Pandey said that with more opportunities, children will contribute more towards a better India while delivering the keynote address at the Valedictory session of the Children’s Science Congress.
C.    It was held at the 105th Indian Science Congress in Imphal.

  

4.   In Imphal 7th Women Science Congress Inaugurated.

A.    Governor of West Bengal, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi strongly emphasised that women need to be brought into the mainstream of national development.
B.    It emphasised expressing the need for women empowerment through innovative use of technology built within institutional arrangements.
C.    Shri Tripathi pointed out that representation of women in science and technology is less than expected inaugurating the 7th Women Science Congress.
D.    It was inaugurated at the ongoing 105th session of Indian Science Congress in Imphal.

  

5.   Manduadih railway station to be renamed Banaras railway station.
A.    The holy city of Varanasi is soon likely to rename as Banaras railway station.
B.     Renaming the Manduadih railway station as Banaras railway station is considered by the Railway Ministry.
C.     In the city besides Varanasi Junction Manduadih is among one of the four railway stations popularly known as Varanasi Cantt Railway Station, Varanasi City and Kashi.

 

6.   In Manipur Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba celebrated.
A.    In Manipur on 18th March to mark the beginning of a new year the traditional festival of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba was celebrated.
B.    On the first lunar day of the lunar month Sajibu (March/April) the festival is mainly observed by the Meitei community, a majority ethnic group of Manipur.

 

7.   As Russian President Putin Elected for fourth term.

A.    For another six years, Vladimir Putin will lead Russia after securing an expected victory in presidential election.
B.    The central election commission said, he had received more than 76% of the vote, with almost all the ballots counted.
C.    Alexei Navalny, the main opposition leader, was barred from the race.

 

8.   As Chinese Premier Li Keqiang Appointed for Second Term.
A.    To approve Li Keqiang’s appointment as the country’s secondary leader of the ruling Communist party, China’s ceremonial legislature voted.
B.    To approve Li’s appointment for a second five-year term as Chinese Premier, the largely rubber-stamp National People’s Congress voted 2,964 to two.
C.    As the country’s top economic official, China’s Premier has traditionally served.

 

9.   Maiden Irani Cup title clinched by Vidarbha.
A.    Second title in the domestic cricket season grabbed by Vidarbha, Ranji Trophy winners, as they won the Irani Cup with their huge first innings total against Rest of India.
B.    In the first innings, Vidarbha piled on 800/7.
 C.    Rest of India was bowled out for 390 in their first innings.

 

10.  New species of water strider found in Nagaland: Ptilomera Nagalanda.
A.    New species of water strider named Ptilomera nagalanda Jehamalar and Chandra in Nagaland have discovered by Scientists from Zoological Survey of India (ZSI).
B.    It was found in river Intanki in Peren district of Nagaland.
C.    It belongs to Ptilomera agriodes genus.
D.    About 11.79 mm measured by it and has long slender legs.
E.     It has orange with black stripes on dorsal side and pale yellowish brown ventral part of body.
F.    It is only found in rocky, fast flowing streams and rivers that are not exposed to lot of sunlight.
G.    It has hair on middle legs that help insects resist strong current of streams.

 

11.  Anti-dumping duty on Ofloxacin import from china imposed by government.
A.    Anti-dumping duty on import of ‘Ofloxacin’, a pharma product used in treatment of certain infections from China has imposed by the Revenue Department in the Finance Ministry.
B.    It was imposed for three years following recommendations of Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD).
C.    It was imposed to protect domestic producers from below-cost shipments.
D.    It had caused material injury to the domestic industry.
E.    DGAD had found that Ofloxacin exported to India from China was below its normal value, in its probe resulting in dumping.
