1.   15 March – World Consumer Rights Day.

15 March

A.    Every year on March 15 the World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is celebrated.
B.    It is celebrated to pay solidarity with the international consumer movement and give more attention to promote basic rights of consumers.
C.    To promote the basic rights of all consumers and demand those rights that must be respected and protected, it provides an opportunity.
D.   ‘Making digital marketplaces fairer’ will be the theme of World Consumer Rights Day 2018.

 

2.   2018 global happiness index topped by Finland.
A.    By happiness levels, based on factors such as life expectancy, social support and corruption 156 countries ranked by the publication of the World Happiness Report.
B.   Finland is the happiest place to live according to report.
C.   Norway and Denmark ranked second and third respectively.
D.    At 133rd in the report is India.
E.   Burundi ranked last in the index.

 

3.   Improved quality governance topped by Pune: Survey.
A.    According to a survey, to show improvement in quality of governance Pune has emerged as the top city.
B.   Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Bhubaneswar and Surat are the other states that came in the top five.
C.   Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy conducted the survey.

 

4.   In HRD Ministry to boost Innovation “Innovation Cell” to be set up.
A.    To further strengthen the innovation efforts an Innovation Cell in the Ministry of Human Resource Development will be created.
B.    A Scientist will head it and comprise of a senior Ministry official and young professionals who bring to the table new ideas in promoting innovation.
C.   Shri Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Human Resource Development, after a high level review meeting stated this.

 

5.   At 7.3 per cent World Bank projects India’s FY19 GDP growth.

A.    For the next financial year the World Bank has projected India’s GDP growth at 7.3 per cent and to accelerate further to 7.5 per cent in 2019-20.
B.    In the current fiscal ending March 31, the World Bank’s biannual publication, India Development Update: India’s Growth story, expects the economy to clock a growth rate of 6.7 per cent.

  

6.   As German chancellor Angela Merkel elected to fourth term.
A.    After lawmakers voted to re-elect her as leader in a close vote on Wednesday morning, Angela Merkel was sworn in as Chancellor of Germany.
B.    A historic fourth term as Chancellor will now began by her.
C.    Almost six months of political turmoil after the federal election the vote in parliament ended.

 

7.   ‘Halkaa’ bags award at Montreal fest by Indian film.
A.    The Grand Prix de Montreal at the gala has bagged by Indian filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda’s “Halkaa”.
B.    Among seven international children’s films from different countries in the official competition of the festival “Halkaa” was selected.
C.    The film is a take on a slum child’s heroism, aspirations, and dreams.

  

8.   Visionary physicist Stephen Hawking dies aged 76.

Stephen Hawking

A.    He is famed for his work with black holes and relativity, and wrote several popular science books including ‘A Brief History of Time’.
B.    After being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease Prof Hawking was given only a few years to live at the age of 22.
C.    He was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge.

  

9.   At the age of 55, actor Narendra Jha passes away.
A.    Known for his work in films like Raees, Haider and Kaabil among others, Bollywood actor Narendra Jha, passed away on March 14 at the age of 55.
B.    In movies like Force 2, Mohenjo Daro and Humari Adhuri Kahaani he also essayed supporting roles.
C.    He was recently seen shooting for Salman Khan’s Race 3.

  

10.  On women safety Himachal CM launches handbook.
A.    Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur released a handbook titled ‘Mahila Suraksha’ on women safety to empower womenfolk.
B.    The book is about measures required for personal safety and safeguards regarding crimes, including sexual harassment at workplace.
C.    Important telephone and helpline numbers is also contained by it.

 

11.  Continuation of Urea subsidy scheme approved by CCEA.
A.    Continuation of Urea Subsidy Scheme from 2017 upto 2020 and implementation of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for disbursement of fertilizer subsidy has approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
B.   Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers forwarded the proposal in these regards.

 

12.  Agreement for avoidance of double taxation approved by cabinet: India-Iran.
A.    Agreement for Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on income between India and Iran has approved by the Union Cabinet.
B.    The Agreement is on similar lines as entered into by India with other countries.

 

13.  CCRAS developed QOL-2C Ayush Drug for cancer patient.
A.   AYUSH QOL-2C for improving quality of life in cancer patients has undertaken development by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS).
B.    It had conducted clinical studies of the drug in breast cancer patients at St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru and AIIMS, New Delhi.
C.    And in lung cancer patients at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research CentreJaipur.
