1.   8 March – International Women’s Day

International Women

A.     On March 8 every year, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated.
B.     It commemorates the movement for women’s rights.
C.     On February 28, 1909 in New York, the first observance of a Women’s Day was held.
D.   March 8 was suggested by the 1910 International Woman’s Conference to become an “International Woman’s Day.”
E.   ‘Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives’ is the theme for the year 2018.
 

2.   In Spain World ATM congress held.

A.     From March 6 to 8, at IFEMA, Feria de Madrid, Spain World ATM Congress (WATMC) 2018 being held.
B.     The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is participating in World ATM Congress (WATMC) 2018. 
C.     It is the world’s largest international air traffic management (ATM) exhibition and conference attracting thousands of delegates each year.
D.    Through a stall at the conference, the AAI is showcasing its achievements and initiatives. 
 

3.   As fourth strongest ranked Indian military by Global Firepower.

A.     On a global index India’s military is placed fourth that has ranked 133 countries on the basis of their global military prowess.
B.     Top three positions –US, Russia and China.
C.     Pakistan ranks 13 on the Global Firepower (GFP) list 2017. 
 

4.   MoU between UPSC and Public Service Commission of Mauritius approved by cabinet.

A.     Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi chaired the Union Cabinet and approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Public Service Commission of Mauritius.
B.     The existing relationship between UPSC and Public Service Commission of Mauritius will be strengthen by MoU.
C.    Sharing of experience and expertise of both the parties in the area of recruitment will facilitated by this.
D.    Institutionalized linkage between the Public Service Comissions of two countries will developed by this MoU. 
 

5.   In Lucknow Swachh Shakti 2018 to be held.

A.     In association with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation is organizing a Women’s Convention – called Swachh Shakti 2018.
B.     It is to be held on International Women’s Day, at Lucknow.
C.    Across the country 8000 women sarpanches, 3000 women Swachhagrahis, and 2000 mahilasamakhyas from Uttar Pradesh have been invited.
D.    They are invited to recognize their outstanding contribution towards making Swachh Bharat a reality in rural India.
E.    On the occasion of International Women’s Day under the banner Swachh Shakti 2017, 6000 women sarpanches from across the country had assembled in Gujarat last year.
 

6.   National E-Mobility Programme launched by RK Singh.

A.     To provide an impetus to the entire e-mobility ecosystem including vehicle manufacturers, charging infrastructure companies, fleet operators, service providers, etc is the aim of the programme.
B.   Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) implemented the programme.
C.    This will aggregate demand by procuring electric vehicles in bulk to get economies of scale.
 

7.   Women Entrepreneurship Platform is to launch by NITI Aayog.

Niti Aayog

A.   Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) will be launched by NITI Aayog, the premier think tank of the country.
B.     It will be launched on 8th March on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
C.    On this occasion, NITI Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Amitabh Kant, UN Resident Coordinator in India Yuri Afanasiev and Kailash Kher, along with industry leaders and partners of WEP will be present.
D.    It will provide a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem where women do not face any gender-based barriers.
E.    To substantially increase the number of women entrepreneurs is the aim of the platform.
F.    It will create and empower a dynamic New India.
G.   Opportunities to women to realize their entrepreneurial aspirations, scale-up innovative initiatives and chalk-out sustainable, long-term strategies for their businesses will provided by WEP.
 

8.   New Tripura Chief Minister – Biplab Deb.

A.     Unanimously elected leader of the BJP legislature party in the state – Tripura BJP president and newly-elected MLA Biplab Kumar Deb. Union minister Nitin Gadkari announced.
B.   Gadkari said, Deb will be the new chief minister of Tripura.
C.    His name was proposed by party MLA Sudip Roy Burman in the meeting.
D.    BJP MLA Jishnu Debbarma will be the deputy chief minister.
E.    In the state before Governor Tathagata Roy, Deb will stake claim to form government.

 

9.   For unfair business practices on 3 airlines CCI imposed Rs. 54 crore, fine.
A.    For unfair business practices with respect to fixing fuel surcharge on cargo transport fine of more than Rs. 54 crore has imposed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
B.    This fine is imposed on Jet Airways, InterGlobe Aviation and SpiceJet.
C.    Against airlines alleging cartelisation, Express Industry Council of India (EICI) filed complaint on which the CCI order comes.
D.    Three airlines to cease and desist from anti-competitive practices directed by it.
E.    In nearly three years It is second order on same complaint. 
 

10.  Scheme for in situ management of crop residue CCEA approves Rs. 1151 crore.

A.   Rs. 1,151 crore for Central Sector Scheme for in-situ management of crop residue has approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
B.    This is approved in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and NCT of Delhi for next two years (2018-20).
C.    It will promote agricultural mechanization.
D.    This scheme will provide cost-effective and eco-friendly solution to farmers.
E.    To deal with problem of stubble burning that result in raising air pollution levels in Delhi and neighbouring states every winter.
 

11.  Two relief measures for stressed telecom sector approved by Cabinet.

A.    Two key measures in telecom sector has approved by the Union Cabinet.
B.    It’s approved to facilitate investments, consolidation in the sector and enhancing ease of doing business.
C.    Revising the limit of the cap for spectrum holding for TSPs.
D.   Restructuring Deferred payment liabilities of spectrum auction of telecom service providers (TSPs) included by these.
 

12.  Pritzkar prize won by Balkrishna Doshi.

A.     Prestigious Pritzker Prize considered architecture field’s Nobel, has won by legendary Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi (90).
B.     He is a pioneer of low-cost housing design.
C.     He is first from India and 45th Pritzker laureate to receive it.
