1.   In UK Paper £10 notes go out of circulation.
A.    Across the UK on March 1, Old paper £10 notes, featuring British naturalist Charles Darwin, went out of circulation.
B.   By the new polymer version featuring British author Jane Austen introduced last year, they have been replaced.
C.   Anyone with the old banknote will need to deposit it at a bank as shops will refuse to accept them as they cease to be legal tender.

 

2.   Integrated app for all government services launched by Telangana.

T App Folio

A.   An m-Governance mobile application called ‘T App Folio’ has launched by Telangana government.
B.   It is to help citizens with one point access to government services.
C.   To bring on-board all mobile apps of its various departments to T App Folio over next 12 months planned by Telangana government.
D.   For the provision of government to citizen (G2C) services Telangana has become the second state government in India.

 

3.   To Provide Free Sanitary Pads Scheme launched by Odisha.
A.    The Odisha government has launched Khushi scheme as part of its initiatives to empower women.
B.    In this scheme Odisha government will provide free sanitary napkins to school girls across the state.
C.    The scheme will be implemented by the health and family welfare department of the state.
D.    It costs 70 crore per year.
E.    Under the scheme, the state will provide free sanitary napkins to 17 lakh girls studying in Classes 6 to 12 in government and government-aided schools.

 

4.   To make cities safer for women centre approves Rs 2900 crore.
A.    Projects worth over Rs 2,900 crore under the Nirbhaya fund approved by the Centre.
B.    It is for eight major cities of the country in a bid to make them safer for women.
C.   Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad Ahmedabad and Lucknow have been sanctioned a total of Rs 2,919.55 crore.
D.    It sanctioned after a meeting of the Empowered Committee, which is headed by the secretary of Women and Child Development (WCD).
E.    The Nirbhaya Fund was set up in the aftermath of the gruesome gangrape and murder of a paramedical student in Delhi in 2012.
F.    It aims at improving safety for women.

 

5.   To promote Marathi Maharashtra government ties up with Wikipedia.
A.    Via a press release on March 1 — Marathi language day, the state government made its announcement.
B.    It said this will help spread the language across the globe.
C.    It said it will give Marathi-speaking people a single platform to interact.

 

6.   For MSMEs RBI lifts per-borrower loan cap.

Reserve Bank of India

A.    The Reserve Bank of India has decided to lift per borrower loan limits to Micro/ Small and Medium Enterprises (Services).
B.    It aims to encourage banks to lend more to this sector, in view of the increasing importance of the services sector.
C.    As priority sector lending (PSL), loans to Micro/ Small and Medium Enterprises (Services) up to Rs 5 crore and Rs 10 crore, respectively, were classified so far.
D.    From now all bank loans to MSMEs will qualify under priority sector without any credit cap.

 

7.   Largest UPI transaction platform emerges Paytm.
A.    In February 2018, the largest contributor to the overall volume of UPI transactions is Paytm.
B.    Paytm said in a statement it had registered 6.8 crore UPI transactions in February.
C.    Paytm contributed 3.3 crore to the overall transaction volume for UPI in December 2017.

 

8.   As higher education secretary, R Subrahmanyam appointed.
A.    As secretaries of Higher Education, and Mines Department respectively, senior IAS officers R Subrahmanyam and Anil Gopishankar Mukim have been appointed.
B.   K K Sharma succeeded by Subrahmanyam, who is at present special secretary in Department of Higher Education.
C.    A 1985 batch IAS officer, Mukim, is working in his cadre state Gujarat.

 

9.   International Olympic Committee restored Russia’s Olympic membership.

A.    It has been restored following its suspension from Pyeongchang 2018.
B.    From February’s Games Russia was banned by the IOC over state-sponsored doping.
C.  168 Russians competed as neutrals in South Korea, despite the ban, and two of them failed drugs tests.

 

10.  First Indian Woman Wrestler to Win Asian Gold – Navjot Kaur.
A.    On 2 March by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold in the Senior Asian Championships, Navjot Kaur scripted history.
B.    In the 65kg freestyle category, she clinched Gold.
C.   Sakshi Malik, Rio Olympics bronze medallist won a bronze in the 62kg freestyle category after getting the better of Kazakhstan’s Ayaulym Kassymova 10-7 in a tough fight.
C.    The two medals took India’s medal tally to six one gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.

 

11.  Pact for Rooppur atomic plant signed by India, Russia, Bangladesh.

A.    Memorandum of understanding (MoU)for cooperation in construction of Rooppur nuclear power plant near Dhaka, Bangladesh signed tripartite by India, Bangladesh and Russia.

B.    It is first initiative under India-Russia nuclear deal to undertake atomic energy projects in third countries.

C.    It will also be India’s first atomic energy venture abroad.

 

12.  35 overseas operations begin to rationalise by PSBs.

A.   Non-viable branchesas part of the clean and responsible banking initiative the state-owned banks have started rationalising overseas operations by consolidating 35 operations and closing down.

B.    The consolidation oncludesbank branches, remittance centres and representative offices, for further examination.

C.    Moreover, 69 operationsalso have been identified.

D.    It will be without affecting international presence ofPSBs in these countries.

E.    It is part of government’s commitment to‘clean and responsible banking.

F.    It moves towards cost efficiencies and synergiesin overseas market.

 

13.  Within 7 years, China to build nuclear – powered aircraft carrier.

A.    To build itsfirst nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Liaoning by the middle of the next decade, the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC).

B.    It was announced as part of its list of ambitions hope to achieve inweaponry and technical developments for People’s Liberation Army (PLA)-Navy by 2025.
