Important Announcement: CBSE to Conduct Two Board Exams Annually Starting 2026
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced a major change in the board examination structure for Class 10 and Class 12 students, starting from the academic year 2026. In a significant shift aimed at reducing academic pressure and enhancing student performance, CBSE will now conduct two board exams each year.
According to the new format, the first board exam will be scheduled in the month of February, while the second board exam will be held in May. This dual-exam system will provide students with two opportunities to appear for their board examinations within the same academic session.
This change is being implemented to help students who may not perform well in the first attempt. If a student is dissatisfied with their February exam results, they will have the option to improve their scores by appearing for the second board exam in May. This format aims to reduce the stress and anxiety associated with a single high-stakes exam and aligns with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for a more flexible and student-centric evaluation system.
The revised examination policy will allow students to better plan their preparation, focus on conceptual learning, and reduce the pressure of having just one chance to prove themselves. Students can choose the best score from either of the two exams, which will be considered final for admission and career purposes.
This progressive step by CBSE is expected to bring more equity, flexibility, and fairness in the education system. Schools, students, and parents are advised to stay updated with the detailed guidelines and calendar that CBSE will release in due course.
